I am convinced that food plays a very important rule in how and why we travel. Sampling food, strolling through markets, and seeking out unique food providers are highlights of my time on shore. As the former food columnist for The Moscow Times, Russia’s largest English-language newspaper, I spent a lot of time researching culinary traditions, developing recipes, and photographing my results for the paper. You can see that archive here.
Much of my time now is spent on cruise ships where I work as an Enrichment Speaker and I’m not (usually) allowed to go into the kitchen. My focus has shifted from recipe development, but I am still passionate about the food space. On each of the voyages I lecture on, you’ll find a talk about the intersection of food with culture and history. It remains a very important subject for me.
