The Legacy of Islamic Spain

In this lecture, we immersed ourselves in the Golden Age of science, culture, and peace of Al-Andalus when Cordoba was the largest city in Europe, and the three “Peoples of the Book,” lived in relative harmony or “convivencia.”  We followed the trail of knowledge from the Ancient World to Baghdad’s House of Wisdom to the scholars and philosophers of al-Andalus and noted the advances the Iberians made in astronomy, medicine, botany, and geography.  We also visited the magnificent architecture of Seville and Granada and explored the important influence the Islamic period had on modern Iberian music, food, and literature.
