Artemis of Ephesus

In this lecture, we explored the many prehistoric cultural and religious influences that converged in the worship of Artemis Ephesia, the great mother goddess at Ephesus.  We explored the ways in which this cult shaped the city of Ephesus, the fourth largest in the known world.  We then looked at the arrival of Christianity to Asia Minor and how worship of Artemis Ephesia was fused with that of the Virgin Mary, ensuring that Ephesus continued to be “The City of the Goddess.”
